The Medical Centre, University of Lagos is organizing a walk/rally and public lecture with the theme: “EAT HEALTHY; BEAT DIABETES” which will begin on Wednesday, November 30, 2016.
The 5th Annual Unilag Health Week programme is in response to
the rapidly increasing epidemic of Diabetes Mellitus in many countries,
with the documented dramatic increase mostly in low and middle-income
countries, especially in the West African sub-region.
This is to sensitize the community on lifestyle measures that
have been shown to be effective in preventing or delaying the onset of
type 2 diabetes so as to avoid diseases such as heart attacks, kidney
failure, blindness, impotence, strokes, nerve damage and infections that
can lead to amputation in those who already have the disease.
The programme will feature a variety of events including free
health screening, medical fair and exhibition, novelty football match,
presentations by various companies and Lectures by Professor Fasanmade,
Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Lagos University Teaching
Hospital (LUTH) and renowned Consultant Endocrinologist, College of
Medicine, University of Lagos Idi-Araba and also Miss Chimah Patience,
Registered Dietician, LUTH.
The Chairman of the programme is the Vice-Chancellor of the
University, Professor Rahamon Bello, FAEng and the Chief Host is
Professor Jane Ajuluchukwu, Chairperson, UNILAG Medical Centre
Management Board, Consultant Cardiologist CMUL/LUTH while the Host is
Dr. Ramota A. Apampa, Director, Medical Services, UNILAG.
